Axel Henry was sworn in as the next chief of the Saint Paul Police Department. Mayor Melvin Carter appointed Axel Henry to the six-year termed position. The city council quickly and unanimously approved the appointment on Wednesday. Henry’s first day as chief is November 19.
“I’m humbled by this opportunity, but it’s also a big responsibility,” said Henry. I know we have the potential to set the bar at a high level for the rest of the country. We know it won’t be easy, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that it’s attainable.”
Watch as the standing-room only crowd celebrated Henry’s appointment and hear from Ward 4 Councilmember Mitra Jalali who said she and her constituents in the Midway neighborhood have been “in the deep end of the most painful failures of policing” in the country.
